Is Mona Lisa grinning or grimacing?

Mona Lisa, or La Gioconda (La Joconde), is a 16th century oil painting on poplar wood by Leonardo da Vinci, and is one of the most famous paintings in the world. Few works of art have been subject to as much scrutiny, study, mythologizing and parody. It is owned by the French government and hangs in the Musée du Louvre in Paris. The painting, a half-length portrait, depicts a woman whose gaze meets the viewer's with an expression often described as enigmatic.

Mona Lisa's smile has triggered much ambiguity. Is she actually grinning or grimacing? Wired magazine provides scientific answers on basis of three theories: 1. Brush strokes, 2. Fields of view, 3. Mental image. For complete story click on the link.

Porn ads in Yahoo

Couple of days ago I saw porn ads at Yahoomail. I wondered what will happen to the porn ads displayed in Yahoo? Here is the screen shoot of it.

When I Google searched, I came across this page on news.com A short excerpt from the news:

Web giant Yahoo said it will pull adult-related entertainment products and banner advertisements from its site in response to concerns raised by its customers.
Over the next few weeks, Yahoo will pull all pornography-related products from the shopping, auction and classified areas of its site. In addition, the company will stop selling ad banner space to sellers of pornography. What surprised me was the date it was published was April 13, 2001. You can read the full news here.

Now it is March 8th 2007 (the day I'm publishing this post), and yahoo still doesn't stop serving porn ads. Many users around the world have raised objection towards this. In country like India it is a crime to view a pornography, this has raised legal issue.

When I further searched I came a page submitted by Patrick Grote at yald notes on: 04/09/2005 . Where the author accidentally discovers a link to free porn yahoo thumbnail in Yahoo image search. The author had reported to yahoo and got no response. The author asks "what was done to resolve the thumbnail issue?" To read the full story click here.

And another issue, where a picture posted on Yahoo dating service has became a porn ad. Click here to read this story.

What do you feel about the pron ads that are displayed across various Yahoo services? Please share your views.

How to tell Google to filter low paying ads?

The problem with Google adsense is that inappropriate ads appear on blogs and it's frustrating. Users don't like feeling on clicking them either. Another hassle is that low paying ads. Even though there are enough clicks, the adsense revenue doesn't increase because of low paying adsense publishers. Either of these cases compromises your adsense revenue.

There is extremely simple solution to fix up the problem. You can tell Google to block certain URL's from serving ads to your site. You can do this by Google adsense Competitive ad filter. The first requirement to use this ad filter is that you need to have adequate URL's to filter in your hand. But this step is also made easy with Google adsense preview tool. You can download this tool. Browse through the ads, click on the ads and the destination URL of the ad is displayed. You can select and copy this URL's and paste them in competitive ad filter and you are done. It may take around four hours to filter the URL's associated with those ads.
Another important tip is to make sure that you use correct set of keywords including in your posts and even the name of pictures! (It matters!)

Make extra $$$$ by knowing the right Keyword!

Worried how to display the most relevant Google ads in your blogs and getting enough clicks? You blog all through the night and ads isn't relevant to your posts? Your question is answered. Here is the crack!

Usually Google adsense shows ads that are only relevant to your posts. The possible reasons are that Google bot is confused about variety of content in your blog. You can tell Googlebot from where to focus from your content. You can do all that by adding small Goggle tag. This is called Section targeting. Digital inspiration explains it all. But before you add Google tag to your page, remember to read "Some things to note before implementing Google Tags" in that page.

I also found Digital oneness with the same tips but with another extra information. You can also de-emphasize or downplay a particular section of your web page. Get this HTML tag too to work in your template.

Head start blogging tips for newbie's

As a business owner, You'll not want to miss out on the additional revenue you can generate by using blogs to add revenue streams to your business . Displaying Adsense ads, affiliate banners and links, and developing another source of traffic to your core business are just a few of the benefits associated with blogging. Once you have a large consistent flow of readers, selling advertising space might become a viable option. This will of course depend on your marketing skills and your ability to provide quality and useful content.

Setting up a new blog with Wordpress is pretty simple and I'm going to assume you've already registered a new domain related to your blog. As well as having a web host that uses cPanel. Using Fantastico to upload and install your new blog is really a no brainer. It will do just about everything for you and gives pretty clear cut instructions to customize the look and feel of your new blog using available Themes and Plug-Ins. I want to add that Wordpress Blogs are free and you can set-up as many as you choose. Each should have its own domain or sub domain.

Some things to consider before you begin the blog set up process.

1. What will you name your blog?

2. What will its purpose be?

3. When and how often will I update my blog?

4. How will you use it to enhance your core business?

5. Will it be seperate from your business or will it be its own business?

6. How will you announce your new blog to the world?

Many affiliate marketers use blogs as their only method of promotion rather than using conventional websites because of the ease and simplicity to update and add content without having to get into text editors and ftp programs. Their blogs are' their business.

Once your blog is set up and you've decided on a name, what your target niche will be, and will it be a stand alone project or an addition to your core business you'll want to get the word out.

Social Bookmarking sites are an effective strategy for bloggers. You can reach a wide variety of bloggers and attract an avid readership to your new blog. I've put a small list below as well as an ebook that lists many other SocialBookmarking sites.

1. tagtooga.com

2. del.icio.us

3. furl.net

4. simpy.com

5.blogmarks.net

6. shadows.com

7. spurl.net

8. netvouz.net

9. lightninghotprofits.com/SocialBookmarkRolodex.pdf

10. lightninghotprofits.com/176BlogTraffic.pdf (This contains 176 Blog Directories you can submit your blog to.)

The sites above will hasten your attracting Google's spiders to your new blog and will get you indexed faster than normal. I don't need to say how important that will be in getting targeted traffic to your blog. But I guess I just did.

You will of course want to submit your blog to the Top 10 Search engines. Doing this every 30 days or so will certainly be beneficial to a solid marketing plan.

Don't forget to consider placing some sort of contextual advertising on your main blog page. Whether it be in the form of adsense, yahoo, 7search, etc. These can bring you much needed revenue in the beginning growing over time.

Whatever you decide to do with your blog I hope I've supplied you with some food for thought as well as some tools for you to get started. The Social Bookmark sites, blog directories and the Top 10 Search engine submissions will almost guarantee attracting readers to your blog and if you supply them with relevant and unique content, word of mouth can most assuredly spread like wildfire.

Good Luck with your new blog! and Happy Blogging!
